Players are also equipped with a dash and a fast fall, both of which act as attacks to defeat incoming enemies. Now, that may immediately put you off, but Super Meat Boy Forever looks at that gameplay style and tries to twist it in almost every way imaginable. Super Meat Boy Forever, in stark contrast to its predecessor, is an auto runner akin to something like Temple Run or Canabalt. Speaking of the gameplay, let’s open up that mixed bag. Granted, the very fact that it’s doing any of this at all could be “the joke” but if it’s not meant to be funny than I’m failing to see what else the story is here for beyond, as I mentioned, context for gameplay. Cutscenes go on for a surprisingly long time, and the game even attempts to be emotional at points. That said, the game does start to take its own story perhaps a bit too seriously towards the end. But hey, some context for the gameplay is better than none at all. The Meat Boy games have never exactly been about their stories. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl then resolve to, um…beat him up and save Nugget. But as I so often say, I can’t argue with my feelings and my feelings state that some games are bad, or at least just okay. That’d be doubly true for a game I’ve been looking forward to for a few years now. In an ideal world every game would I play would be awesome and loved and I’d never bad mouth it ever. Fetus will go plummeting.I know it doesn’t always seem it, but I don’t take pleasure in disliking things. Press the switch in the Mario-esque boss room and Dr. Don’t slow down, otherwise you’ll fail the last few jumps. From here, it’s just a matter of keeping up momentum to the very end of the stage. The next stretch includes vertical and horizontal rotating saws, but the ones on ground level make a quick opening where Meat Boy can drop down and rush through (don’t miss this chance). If done with the right timing, you’ll be able to avoid all the saws in this next section. Instead of jumping towards the floating platform, build momentum while sliding down the wall to leap towards the outer wall that the rotating saw keeps clipping. Super Meat Boy can be challenging to pick up in this respect, but the fact players immediately respawn upon death (coupled with short stages) makes for an experience even inexperienced gamers can enjoy.Īlthough the meat of Super Meat Boy comes from platforming, the indie games feature several tense boss fights to test players.
